FROM ‘LIBERAL TRANSLATORS’ TO ‘COMPETENT TRANSLATERS’ – TRANSLATION AS AN OVERARCHING DIAGNOSTIC ACTIVITY IN AN ESP/ESAP COURSE

چکیده

The paper points to some possible advantages of translation as a language activity in the ESP/ESAP classroom well its role bringing fore aspects use that may not be always explicitly addressed by commonly used tasks communicative teaching. Attention is thus drawn diagnosing students’ competences with aim improving them and eventually developing their overall reading comprehension. Most conclusions have been reached on basis authors’ extensive experience teaching students different disciplines varied L2 proficiency levels at Faculty Philosophy University Belgrade, and, more specifically, results obtained through analysis large corpus translations fields pedagogy, anthropology history, tentatively representing social sciences–humanities spectrum. As being an indication need additionally focused on, common errors serve substantiate rationale behind course.
